Draft Day

The NFL draft starts in a few hours.  Now, I’m a big NFL fan ok a big Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan.  But this day always make me wonder.  Doesn’t it seem strange that there are a couple 100 guys in their early 20’s all waiting to get a phone call that will pay them more than I will make in my lifetime.  Yes they all have a skill that only a few people in the world posses and millions like to watch them use their skills but today is still strange.  If you watch the draft today, which I’m sure most will not, you will see 30-50 yr old men yelling and cheering that a certain 20 something guy joins their team.  To add to the craziness ESPN magazine did a study that shows a first round pick is nearly as likely to be out of the NFL after 5 years (8%) as he is to make the Pro Bowl during those 5 seasons (9%).

Now if I was Kelley Davenport I would be clever enough to make this into some cool spiritual analogy.   Man,  he’s good at that.  But all I can say is, isn’t it awesome that God doesn’t draft us by rounds.  Since He drafts all of us by grace there are no rounds.

Church for the rest of us.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Go Bucs.

  1. All I can say is, you gave it your best Bill, but Kelley is definitely better at this then you somehow some way. LOL! Sorry, but good post, I don’t have a care in the world for NFL and was entertained reading, so you didn’t do a bad job.
